Cowrie Earrings

Sterling silver cowrie shells hanging from hooks, cast from a real cowrie. The cowrie is the smooth, egg-shaped shell with the long slotted opening along its underside, and the cast keeps both: the polished dome on one face and the ridged slot on the other. Because they hang free, both faces show as the earrings turn, which is more than most shell jewellery gives you. Cowries are naturally glossy, so the silver version sits somewhere between a shell and a pebble. Smooth to hold, with the detail concentrated along that one opening. They are light for their size. Kinkel make a matching ring from the same cast if you want to carry the shape through. We stock Kinkel in the shop on Oak Street in Greyton, and post anywhere in South Africa.
